Meet the Artist

I’m Cae, the artist behind Disturbance Studios.

My work begins where the natural world leaves its treasures. I spend time along Ontario’s lakes, rivers, and forests, listening to what remains. Stones, feathers, bones, and other fragments of life become the materials that inspire and guide my work.

I don’t see what I find as trophies, but as teachers. I find items that are often overlooked, such as bones or glass, and showcase the life that is still left in them. This comes from a constant desire to prove worth and value, a gut instinct to say: “See! Look, there is beauty here, you just have to take a closer look.” Through my work, I try to honour the energies of the items I find and allow them to guide the direction of my projects. I give form to what’s been forgotten and create something that holds both memory and meaning. This practice is how our motto was born: Where lost things live again.

To wrap up my personality: if I were a member of Pixie Hollow, I would absolutely be living with the Tinker Fairies. I’ve always been a bit of a tinkerer and absolutely love working with mixed media. I am a firm believer that any material can be turned into a work of art with a bit of imagination. My goal is to repurpose old and thrifted items and intertwine them with the natural elements in my projects to create something new. This way, my art can be a bit more sustainable and eco-friendly, and completely unique!

Each piece from Disturbance Studios is part of the ongoing conversation between expression, cycles, loss, and renewal. I am fascinated by nature and its reclamation over manmade fixtures. I am intrigued by the finality of death and how energies shift and move. I look for answers in every breath of wind and every wave that hits the shore. I certainly don’t have the answers yet, but I hope my work encourages you to look closer, to notice what the world leaves behind, and to find beauty in its individuality.

Thank you for joining me in this journey!

~Cae
